Hi all. I have been using VLC on my macs as my main player since osx tiger. Never had any problems to this day.I have a mac mini running as a dedicated htpc with vlc. Since the 10.6.8 update whenever I play an mkv file thru encoded output it plays fine. But no audio comes following the first file (ie i cant get audio from another file mkv; mp3 or anything else till i restart but if i play another mkv w passthru its the same story with other files i want to play) I tried updating everything and reinstalled vlc. What might be causing the problem and how can I fix it?

Tried to reset VLC's preferences? Delete both a folder called "org.videolan.vlc" and a file named "org.videolan.vlc.plist" in ~/Library/Preferences

Already tried resetting the preferences but to no avail. I still have no audio after playing an mkv with passthru.

None I'm afraid. Tried deleting vlc and preferences and installing older versions. No change. Makes me think it's not down to VLC player.
Dunno....

Yeap I can confirm it's system related. Mplayer OSX extended or any other player(incl. qt x w perian) has the same exact problem. If only there was a way to revert back to 10.6.7 w/o a format or reinstall.

OK Found a solution on apple discussion forums.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/31 ... 5&tstart=0

restore the HD/System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

just select it, start timemachine a restore old kext from date when you have 10.6.7 installed..
