VLC v1.1.10 doesn't play .ts files anymore

Postby relaht » 11 Jun 2011 15:09

The newest version of VLC (1.1.10) refuses to play MPEG2 files inside a Transport-Stream container. (TS)
It shows only a black screen without sound. When I try to stream .ts files over a network VLC crashes.
Same problem with h264 files inside inside a TS-container.

I had no problems with older versions (up to 1.1.9)

I can confirm that on my iMac with OSx 10.5.8 and 32-bit vlc 1.1.10 Had to downgrade to 1.1.9 to fix it. On another iMac with Snow Leopard the 64-bit vlc 1.1.10 has not such problems.

same here: minimac c2/10.6.7/32bit 1.1.10 shows grey or half black/half whitescreen...1.1.9 works fine.

same here in 10.5.8 on a G5 2 ghz iMac.....mpeg files from eyetv recordings come up mostly blank with scrambled bits of vid at times. also having problems with my QT mpeg2 component at the same time, but they are apparently unrelated.

We got a ticket about this in our bug tracker, which I hope to fix just in time for VLC 1.1.11. (click here).
Note that the 64bit port of VLC is not affected. Regrettably, it requires a suitable Intel-based Mac and Mac OS X 10.6 or later.

so, does this mean that VLC is not going to fix this for PPC macs? or just that the fix will come later? My mac is only from 2005 and I'm finding that more and more software is no longer updatable, and at least online, things are requiring newer versions than I cannot use. It would be nice if VLC didn't abandon PPC users yet, there are still many out there.

Sorry, my posting was ambiguous. The fix will be available for all 3 platforms supported by VLC for Mac: PowerPC, Intel 32bit and Intel 64bit. The new release will probably be published tomorrow (depending on the release manager).

Thank you...I've seen so many things just totally drop support for PPC lately, I thought that might be the case here as well.
