Using VLC 1.1.7 GUI version for Mac OS X, how can I enlarge the caching buffer that is used for playing a video across a local network so that there is less stopping, starting, and stuttering? Thanks ...

Thanks, j-b,

How do I do that? I.e., where in the list of preferences items are those particular ones, file-caching and http-caching? I don't seem to be able to find them, even when I select 'All' and look through all the items that seem relevant, to my untrained eye ...

I'm using version VLC 2.1.5. on Windoze 7 Pro.
  1. Tools->Preferences
  2. Lower left corner, select "All".
  3. Left Navigation Pane click on "Input / Codecs"
  4. Scroll the right pane down to locate the "Advanced" grouping.
  5. Update "File caching (ms)"
  6. Update "Network caching (ms)"
I haven't experimented with this myself, so I'm not sure what values to use. The defaults are 300 for file, 1000 for network. Try increasing them by 50% and see what happens.

Please report back here with your findings....
