Does anyone know how to get growl notifications to work with VLC 1.1.5
I searched the board and found somthing about prefs->interface->control interface - but it doesn't look like 1.1.5 has the same growl support...

Thanks!

Yes, I'm really missing the Growl function too. It's just annoying that there's no way at the moment to display something like the track name, album and artist without bringing the VLC window to front. Only because of this rather simple lacking feature I'm now using iTunes again (with GrowlTunes) for playing my mp3s instead of VLC.

But it seems that feature was removed from the OS X Version of VLC because the lack of support for it. I haven't looked into it yet, but maybe something like this can also be done using Apple Script and growlnotify. But I'm not experienced enough in programming on the Mac yet, do make something like that.

ehm, sorry, I didn't know that anyone was actually using this. This module was silently forgotten in a re-work of our build system. I'll test it and hope to bring it back in the next release :-)

Well, I wasn't actually using it with VLC, since I didn't wanted to use an old VLC version (lacking other features) just for my MP3s. But such feature is really convenient when listening to some music, while doing something else on the computer. Before I used the Growl-Feature (with iTunes and GrowItunes) I always was annoyed, when I had to bring iTunes to front when the next song was playing or if the streaming radio changed to the next song.

Sure. I'll update this thread as soon as this feature is included in our Nightly Builds again.

VLC 1.1.8 & Growl

Now that I saw that Growl support was added again in 1.1.8, I was trying to use this feature, but failed. I checked Growl-UDP in the "control interfaces", but VLC won't register with Growl, which means it doesn't appear in the Growl Application list within it's preferences pane. Well, I haven't changed the default settings of Server (127.0.0.1) and UDP Port (9887), yet, but I doubt my error lies there.

So my obvious question:
How do I get the Growl messages working with VLC 1.1.8 ?

While the growl plugin is activated in VLC 1.1.8 (and registers itself nicely for me), it will crash VLC as soon as it is used. I hope to provide a fix for 1.1.9. Stay tuned.

I've re-added a Growl module to VLC 1.1.9 for local notifications on the same Mac. The growl_udp plugin is also included, but isn't fixed yet. Please use the new option in the Interface category of VLC's Preferences to enable the Growl notification.

VLC 1.1.9 will be available later this week.

Any other suggestion to have VLC working with Growl 1.3.1?
Thank you.

We will need to update Growl in VLC's next release.

For the meantime, you can download the "Growl Version Detective" from growl.info to fix it yourself. Just find VLC in the "Framework" list and click on "Upgrade FW" on the bottom left of the window.
This isn't straight forward, but due to a break in the Growl framework which wasn't announced prior to the release of Growl 1.3.

ehm, nevermind, this doesn't work either, although it is the suggested way by The Growl Project, LLC.
