Which VLC version for Mac version?

I've been to the forums and Wiki for videolan, but nothing on matching VLC version to the version of Mac hardware and Mac OS X software.

Which version of VLC is best for iMac G4 running 10.4.11?
I was running VLC just fine, then VLC had an update 1.1.5, which I downloaded, but it does not work. The error code indicated that this version of VLC would not run on this mac. How dumb is this?

If I understand correctly, Version 0.9.10 is the last version that'll run on Tiger (OS X 10.4.x). To go to the 1.x versions, you'll need Leopard.

(I use 0.9.8 on my PowerBook G4 running Tiger.)

Thanks for the reply, great info.
OK, where did you learn or figure out that VLC 0.9.10 is the last version for mac OS 10.4.x? How can I be sure of the proper version for mac OS 10.4.11 running on a G4?

I did download 0.9.8 and it works, but when VLC checks for updates it still recognizes 1.1.5 as a viable update.
