QuickTime Player-recorded movies do NOT play in VLC

I have a fancy new MacBook Pro with a nice built in videocamera. I open Quicktime Player and make a new movie recording. That recorded movie then plays back perfectly in Quicktime Player. Now I try to open that movie in VLC 1.1.5 for OS X, but it only plays the audio and opens an error that says:

"No suitable decoder module - VLC does not support the audio or video format "yuvs". Unfortunately there is no way to fix this."

then I click Show Details and in red it says

"no suitable decoder module for fourcc `yuvs'. VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

The same thing happens to all the movies I recorded using Quicktime Player. Can VLC really not playback the regular old native video format that Quicktime Player uses?

I have the same problem

VLC will not play a file.mov
and the complaint is the video codec yuvs.
so is there a solution?
and alternative?
will mplayer or ....something work?
