.Mov Plays in VLC but not QT - Need Help

Hi all,

I've been researching for days on this issue. I recently dumped down some .mov files. The only player that can support the files is VLC. Upon looking at the media info, the video codec is listed as mpgv. I'm hoping I can get this recognized to play in QT so I can then edit the clips in iMovie.

Anyone have any ideas? I am running 10.4.7 so some of the solutions on later OS versions will not work.

Let me know,

Thanks.

How is this related to VLC? As you state that it works in VLC...

Not a real VLC question, but I am guessing the video is MPEG2, which from what I remember only supported in Quicktime by a paid add-on from Apple. VLC supports this as standard :)

Perhaps, installing Perian helps to make iMovie understand the format. If not, I'd recommend it to transcode to proper MP4 with a tool called Handbrake. AFAIR, current iMovie versions support a limited range of formats only despite the installed QuickTime codecs.
