VLC refuses to take screenshots/screencaps

I have Mac OS X 10.6.4 and I'm using VLC 1.1.3. Every time I try to make screenshots, the program doesn't make them. Even when I change the hotkeys or adjust the directory location, nothing happens. Using the snapshot command on the drop down video menu does nothing. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I have the same configuration and the same issue. I can take a snapshot by selecting the menu option but the keyboard shortcut doesn't work even if you change it to something else.

Works nicely for me with the default setting. Did you try to delete both a folder called "VLC" and a file named "org.videolan.vlc.plist" in ~/Library/Preferences?

Note that the default location for screencaps changed with VLC 1.1 from the Desktop to "Pictures" in your user's home folder.

Yes, I deleted the preferences both manually and using the "Delete Old Preferences" script that ships with the app. I'm wondering if some other application doesn't "own" the key. However I have tried changing it to numerous other keys and they still aren't recognized. For example, when I change it to plain "s", which is the default for subtitles, "s" still gives the subtitle message even though the preferences now show the subtitle key to be unassigned and s to be the key for screen shots.

Finally figured out this problem! The built-in speech module in OS-X intercepts the key. Disable "Speak selected text when key is pressed" in "Text to Speech" preference pane.
