VLC 1.1.0 forgets settings when upgrading

VLC just prompted me to upgrade. As usual, I downloaded the newest version and installed it. Usually VLC upgrades are quick and painless... (VLC is an example of software updates done well.) However, in this case, the upgrade overwrote ALL of my settings!

This isn't cool! I don't want to have to continually tell VLC to use my SPDIF and to deinterlace DVDs every time I upgrade.

I'm on Mac, Snow Leopard.
