in VLC running on Windows:
Tools -> Preferences -> Video -> Force Aspect Ratio = 16:9

how can i do this in VLC on Mac?

In the preferences: all, then video section and it is one of the options there. Can't remember which one it was at this point,

how to set "Force Aspect ratio" = 16:9?
