VLC crashes immediately when playing VIDEO_TS files...

Everytime I drop a VIDEO_TS folder on VLC, it crashes immediately. It will play individual VOB files, but any VIDEO_TS folder, either a commercial DVD, or one I have ripped, it crashes.

I am using a MacBook Pro, 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (the last MacBook Pro before they released the unibody design), Snow Leopard (fully updated current), 4 GB RAM.

I have deleted all prefs, all VLC files, repaired permissions, and re-installed, and that doesn't work. I have used the official release, and several different nightly builds... same result.

The crash reporter gives the following reason:

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000010
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

There is much more to it, if that will help.

Thanks for any help.

Forgive me, I'm ignorant of what the "non-menu" version of the DVD playback is. How do I do that?

Thanks for your help.

The same problem here.
You can't drag and drop the VIDEO_TS to the playlist. It gives the same error message.
But it can be opened from the menu File - Open Disc...

Click File, Open Disc, and check the box beside No DVD menus to use the non-menu version.

You can select which DVD tile you would like to play by clicking Playback, mousing over Title at the very bottom of the menu, and selecting which title.

It works perfectly now. Tick the No DVD menu.
should it be a bug to be fixed in the next release?

You can try the VLC nightlies if you want to check the latest development code, but a crash log would probably be the most useful.

Take a look at http://wiki.videolan.org/VLC_report to see if your crashes can provide any additional information not already in the thread.

I try in my Snow Leopard drag the .TS file to VLC and it show the menu correctly. I'm using VLC 1.0.4 stable for Mac. What versión are you using?

1.0.4 is still in development so there is no "stable". The problem might be fixed, but it is safe to assume that most people are using the 1.0.3 build as it is the latest stable available.
