high CPU usage with the 64 Bit version of VLC (Snow Leopard)

Hello,
VLC uses very much CPU on my Snow Leopard macbook alu late 08.
In comparison:
720p movie:
VLC with 64 Bit: 100-130%
VLC with 32 Bit: 10-20%
1080p movie:
64 Bit: somtimes 200% and stuttering
32 Bit: ca. 100% (fluidly)
(200% means that both cores of my dual core processor are busy)
Is that a bug? That does`nt seem to be normal.

Sounds strange to me. I didn't note that on my Macbook. Did you already reset your preferences and cache completely by deleting the "VLC" folder in ~/Library/Preferences?

Yes, i have just tried that.
I have deleted the cache folder, and the preference-files manually and then I also reinstalled the whole application with starting the "cleaning-preferences" script of the disk image before.
But its the same problem as before...

Similar issue on my end.
CPU usage will go up to 110-120 % usage when I first open up a .avi file and stay there for about 20 seconds and then drop down to under 20% for remainder of video.
Switching back to 32-Bit VLC resolves this problem.

Hello,
I'm experiencing the same problem !
With my HD videos (AVCHD 1080p), the CPU is at 200% all the time while it is at something like 90% with the 32 bit version ...
I removed the preference folder with no changes
Macbook Pro 15"4 unibody mid 2009 (the one with the SD card slot) 2.66GHz with Snow Leopard 10.6.1 (32bit kernel)
