Snow Leopard is a disaster (1.0.2) - warning to upgraders

It's useless - I'm downgrading this weekend back to 10.5.6
I have a Macbook 13" hooked up to a 720p tv. Back in the days of 10.5 with VLC I could play any type of file without any hitch over my home network. I have an extensive collection of 720p MKVs and never had a problem.
Now with 1.0.1 AND 1.0.2 on 10.6 I cannot play any HD MKV content. Everything skips horribly, it's unwatchable. Please note: I can't even watch things LOCALLY - never mind on the network - that wouldn't even load anymore anyway.
Yes I have changed the setting so that the loop filter would be set to 'none' for 'all'. It stutters less - but instead it has the mother of all artifacts popping up at random location. It also looks generally horrible, like if the post processing was off.
I don't want this to be a dig at VLC - I tried Movist, and I tried Perian on both QT7 and QT10. Same issue with HD MKVs. Well I guess we can't complain that Apple didn't test for this 'type' of content after all.
Finally - to make things even worse - there's a bug in snow leopard where vsync is disabled by default when outputing to an external TV. EVEN if vlc could fix the problems, screen tearing would be persistent.
The whole upgrade was a waste of time - buyers beware. Wait for 10.6.2 or above before upgrading.
