VLC 1.0.2 64bits and MKV

VLC will crash trying to render an mkv
Seems to be related to subtitles (fonts):

By the way I tried to play .avi files with external .srt and got no problems.

Me again, I've 'remux' an mkv extracting subs and embedded fonts.
Got no problems playing the file.

Ok, try to give the 755 mode to your fontconfig cache.

I have the same issue. Changing permissions on the fontconfig cache did nothing.

That was the workaround for slow mkv on snow leopard right ? Then that change was already done.

Same here, all MKV files from a variety of different sources crash while rendering regardless of subtitle configuration. All other formats play fine. Had to downgrade to the 32-bit version for the time being, as most of my files are in MKV format. For some reason this issue seems to only be present in the 64-bit version.

Yeah, I have two 720p mkv files. One has subtitles, the other does not. The one with subtitles CRASHES vlc, and the one without subtitles runs fine. Running 64-bit version in SL on my unibody Macbook.

I can also recreate this.
VLC 1.0.2 (64bit) on Mac OS X 10.6.1 will crash without exception if an MKV has subtitles.
Update: This is not fixed in the 1.0.3 nightly builds.

I have found a solution to prevent it from crashing. Open VLC Preferences, at the bottom left select the radio button "All" instead of "Basic". Then under the menu on the left, select Video > Subtitles/OSD and uncheck "Enable sub-pictures". This seems to have fixed it for me but it may prevent you from using any subtitles in VLC.

I went to inspector and amend to "open as 32bit". Resolved at least for now.

WoW, it did help!! Thx a lot but...how can I watch the movies with subtitles? T_T
