1.0rc4 Disabling Media player hotkey integration?

Hi

How do I disable the hotkey integration on this thing?

With 0.9.9 I could watch a movie and have itunes minimised. I could then pause the movie I'm watching, do some work with no distractions. I could hit the Play key on my mac's keyboard to play some music with itunes if I wanted to have music playing while I work.

Now with the new integration of hot keys, I now have my movie playing and my itunes playing all at once. Which is annoying because now I'm forced to close VLC and use Quicktime for playing movies.

How do I turn this "feature" off? There is no Basic or Advanced button in the interface to do this :( Or better yet, if vlc sees iTunes is in memory can it ignore any media keys?

Have you tried going to the preferences and selecting 'unset' from the drop-down next to the offending action?

the media keys can currently not be disabled. We will like add a "disable" function for this. In all honesty however... blame Apple. This media key thing is one of the worst designs I have come across.

Will be fixed in later releases of VLC. However, VLC 1.0 is feature-complete and can't get this option at this point. However, the next 1.0.x will include it.

This is a major flaw in the new release. I always have VLC and iTunes running and can not live without the hotkeys (start/stops my music) - it is extremely irritating. I think I am going to go back to the old VLC until this is fixed. I do however feel you when you say that the Apple media keys are a bad design - i can imagine it.

Hope the fix will be available soon!

All the best

ok you guys said the fix would be out by 1.0.1. it clearly says on the front page "1.0.1" and so i happily downloaded this new build, but the bug remains! i've checked preferences but i was not able to find a way to disable VLC's interference with the media keys!

The options are in the "Interface" section of our "basic" preferences. They are called "Control playback with media keys" and "...when VLC is in background". Uncheck whatever you don't need and it won't interfere anymore instantly after clicking "Save".

I am on 1.1.2 the next version and I am still stuck with media player key integration.

I would very much like to disable this.

As pointed in my previous posting, the option is in the "Interface" category of VLC's preferences. You can choose whether it should respond to the media keys in background or in foreground or not at all.

Note that in Mac OS X 10.6, the play key will always be recognized by iTunes as well due to an unresolved bug in the underlying Mac OS X code.

I cannot find the option in 1.1.6. Can someone tell me where I can find it?

Thanks,
Stolzi

As said, it's in the Interface category of VLC's Preferences ("Basic" mode):
-> Control playback with media keys
--> ... when VLC is in background

That's due to the fact that you are using VLC on Windows while this is the Mac OS X and iOS forum. Sorry, I've got no idea how this feature is controlled on Windows or Linux.
