I already posted this in the general troubleshooting section, but I thought I'd try it in the OS X-specific section too.
I'm having issues with subtitles in .mkv files. I downloaded an .mkv file, and the only other files that came with it are an .md5 file and an .nfo file. When I play the .mkv file in VLC 1.0.1 (and 1.0 as well), the Subtitles Track window shows an English track. However, no subtitles show up when I select it.
I downloaded an English .srt file for the video from Open Subtitles, renamed the file to match the .mkv video title, and after loading the file from Subtitles Track, the new subtitle file shows up as Track 2, but doesn't specify the language. No subtitles show up when this is selected.
I've asked for help from one other forum, but no help has come up. I've seen people suggesting to use video conversion software in order to merge the new .srt file to the .mkv file, but those look like Windows-only solutions.
Can anyone help me with this? I've tried subtitles with the "Enable OSD" option selected and de-selected from the Preferences window, but that doesn't make a difference. Seemed like a long shot, but I'm trying anything to make this work. Any help is appreciated.
P.S. - if this helps, I get this message whenever I select the subtitles track for the file: "main debug: control type=17
main debug: spu is disabled, not selecting ES 0x0" What does this mean?
