strange Progress bar

Postby 0815 » 13 Apr 2009 11:33

MacOSX 10.5 Intel with VLC 0.9.9a

As you can see in the sreenshots the bar gets that streaming status when i add a song to the playlist. No progress bar appears and the song is just bold in the media library, but will not be added to the playlist. It looks like this all the time.

No problems with playing the stuff, I can hear everything, it plays the next song automatically... just no progress bar and no playlist.

Restarted vlc, restarted mac... it's the same. I just updated to 0.9.9a.
Previous version was 0.9.8 - no problems.
The only thing that also changed is the firefox plugin. I installed the browser plugin wich is at 0.8.6i.

And the problem is only with exactly that one song ?
Can you specify it or make available to us ?

It doesn't happen with this song only. There are several songs that freeze the vlc - but not all. It seems that the interface freezes in "loading the song - please wait" mode :-)
Another strange thing happened: I restarted it 3 times and now my entire media library is flattened, so all songs are in one list instead of directories.
I tried this:
Coldplay - A Message
Codec mpga
Chanels 2
44100 Hz
128 kb/s
Normal id3v2 tag, no special chars except the & (Album X&Y)
FREEZES

DragonForce - My Spirit will go on
Codec mpga
Chanels 2
44100 Hz
128 kb/s
Normal id3v2 tag, no special chars
FREEZES

Celldweller - Fadeaway
Codec mpga
Chanels 2
44100 Hz
128 kb/s
Normal id3v2 tag, no special chars
DOES NOT FREEZE

the progress bar is a little wonky in 0.9.9a. the progress bar animation continues after video has loaded and started playing. sometimes it continues after video has been stopped. worked fine in 0.9.8a.
VLC 3.0.11 / Mac OS X 10.13.6 / Intel Core i7 HD3000

Have you tried a nightly of 1.0.0 to see if it changes anything?

Just to note: nightlies are more for QA testing, since they are 'pre-release', but can help in seeing if work is already being done. The link is http://nightlies.videolan.org/
Providing logs, messages, configuration info (VLC, OS, Hardware) and a clear explanation of the issue always helps the problem solvers help you, even if they don't end up solving the issue. Just think what you would need if you were solving someone else's problem. Additional: Always looking for eager and capable MacOS X developers to join the VLC team - for more information see here.

After updating to 0.9.9a for MacOS X not only the progress bar had a glitch, also the title of the media track just playing didn't show up. Actually it rendered the VideoLAN player worthless for my kind of use. What I did was I went to http://download.videolan.org/pub/videol ... 8a/macosx/ and downloaded and re-installed the former 0.9.8a version. Now it's working properly again. SKIP THE NEW VERSION 0.9.9a ON MACOS X!
