Audio Missing after Updated VLC Installed

VLC is a great player, something that has always played video that most any other player might have failed to play.

I have a number of video tutorials that I like to cue up in a playlist, VLC with a great tool just for that purpose. Sometimes the CD's of the tutorials have not been authored well for the OS X, and so rather than dealing with trying to get the thing to launch, I can just go to the video folder and play the video's.

I just tried VLC and got a "jittery" audio track. So, I downloaded the current version, and I don't even get any audio at all. The previous version of VLC that I had it seemed did better.

I'm on a Power PC, running OS X 10.4.

Here is the error I get with these quicktime files:

No suitable decoder module
VLC does not support the audio or video format "Qclp". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

Bummer, VLC has always been at least the "last best hope" of playing video on my mac. Any easy work around on this? Thanks.

Can you give me a sample?

Yes,

I can upload it to a server. Will that work? It is copyrighted stuff, but I think we'll be okay in troubleshooting it.

Here is the URL to a 22 MB file taken from the CD. Please download it for testing so I can remove the live link. I like playing these movies from their media folder as a play list from the CD, one by one full screen. It's great, but for some reason VLC hasn't been able to play this audio.

Yes, VLC is in the process of adding support for Qclp... So I need samples to test.

grab the .mov at the url I posted if you would, then, if you would, affirm when you have it so I can take it offline.

Sorry, you can.

And Qclp support is coming in 1.0. We added the good codec.

Good Day.

This file format (Qclp) is what the Palm Treo videos use. Although the Treo sends the file with a 3G2 extension, VLC gives the infamous
"No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "Qclp". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

Message.

However, the video does play, without sound. Even if I rename the extension (e.g. avi, mov)

So, if you need sample, I can send quite a few of varying lengths. Just let me know. :)

Hello,
I have the same Qclp - no audio problem while trying to play 3g2 files from a Samsung phone.
This just started happening after yesterday updated to version 0.9.8.1 or 0.9.8a - I'm not sure which number is relevant.

The video clips worked just fine in version 0.8.6.0 or 0.8.6e which I used until yesteday.

Thanks for a great product! The only other player that works is QuickTime but I can't stand QuickTime, so I hope you can revert to what worked. If samples needed, please let me know where and how to post.

Well, it should be back for VLC 1.0, with a native decoder.

This thread is a year old so maybe this issue has been generally resolved, but I'm having the same problem.

I used to use OS 10.4.11 along with an earlier version of VLC (0.98?). I currently use OS 10.6.2 and VLC 1.0.3.

Previously I could receive 3gp files from a Verizon Blackberry user and play them fine via both VLC (and I think QT). The audio would play fine.

Currently though (with the newer OS/VLC) I get no sound via VLC, QT, or Mplayer.

In VLC it shows Stream 0 (video) being mp4v and Stream 1 (audio) being Qclp.

Is there some codec(s) that I need to download from somewhere? I'm not interested in converting the files. I just want to play them as soon as I receive them. Thanks!

Well I still can't figure out how to get qclp audio support back into VLC.

Previously I stated that even Mplayer wouldn't play qclp audio, but then I realized I had only tried out the older/original MPlayer and not the newer Mplayer Extended. WIth Extended it plays qclp audio fine.

So it sounds like this is another nail in the VLC for OS X coffin. It was good while it lasted.
