Flash video stops working after using SPDIF in VLC 0.9.3

After I have used VLC (0.9.3, same with older versions) to play video that uses S/PDIF I'm unable to hear sound in Flash videos. The videos on Youtube start playing (without sound) but stop after 2 seconds, my guess is that they stop because a buffer fills up. The only way to 'fix' this is by restarting the browser (Safari / Firefox).
This has been a problem for quite some time now (as long as I have a digital receiver, approx 1.5 years?) and it's pretty annoying if you have a zillion windows/tabs open in your browser I'm a bit surprised that I can't find any bugs or topics related to this?
I'm using a MacBook Pro 2.16, Logitech Z-5400 receiver, have tried this with both 9.x and 10.x Flash versions.
Other people with the same problem? Any known workarounds that don't involve restarting my browser? Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
