0.9.x preferences not sticking

Has anyone else had a problem with the preferences resetting as soon as you quit? I tried to change the default volume as well as show all preferences, yet as soon as I quit and restart VLC, it's back to basic and the original default volume. I've tried deleting the VLC folder in user/Library/Preferences. I've checked and changed the permissions on those files to allow everyone to read and write them. Nothing seems to help. I've had this problem with both 0.9.2 and 0.9.3. I may go back to 0.8.6 since 0.9 hasn't shown any advantages.
