VLC 0.9.2 Strange Volume Fluctuations

Ever since "installing" the new VLC player I have found that the volume level of the songs sorta "pumps" while I listen to it. I would relate it a lot to the sound of a heavy compressor... when I first start an MP3 the volume is loud and the it quiets within a second or two and then it starts to fluctuate. It is somewhat subtle but still noticeable for sure. I have tried to go back to the old version 0.8.6i but it now does the same things... I am not sure what is going on! Thanks for the help!

I'm guessing the normvol audio-filter is to blame for this. It gets accidently enabled in 0.9.2 OSX. Should be fixed in 0.9.3

I had this problem too. I'm pretty sure it's because you have volume leveling on. VLC doesn't analyze each track and level the playback volume across them. It tries to constantly level the sound it produces, eliminating all dynamic range and certainly not what most people (or at least I) would expect.
