Very bad subtitles support ...

I have video with subtitles in SRT, SUB, ... files when played in VLC, the subtitles are completely lagging with the video completely out of phase ... But if I use any QuickTime compatible video player using perian, the subtitles first renders very well, then they following perfectly the video ! The same with MPlayer, so what's wrong with VLC ???
