Weird sound issue wile playing a movie

Hello all i have this weird issue with a movie. the issue is that it wont play audio but the video plays fine but it will play the audio if i plug a set of earphones in and only then does the audio work with the movie in question. now with the earphones unplugged i get normal audio from system sounds, iTunes and other movies playing in VLC also play audio with the earphones unplugged. its just this one movie that i get this issue with.
now if i play this movie and have a system sound happen (like when you turn up or down the volume using the KB) the audio from the movie will coincide with the system sound (meaning when the system sound happens you can hear the movies audio, but as soon as the system sound stops you cant hear the movies audio anymore)
its weird cause this is the only movie that i have that does this. i thought at first it was tiger having issues i then booted into leopard and tried and again i could only get audio from the movie if i plugged in the earphones or have a system sound happen with the earphones unplugged (again it was the same in tiger, but still the sound plays properly with the earphones unplugged for any other movie playing in VLC or a system sound or iTunes audio.
next i tried playing a song in iTunes with the earphones unplugged wile playing the movie and i hear the song in iTunes but not the movies audio. i plugged in the earphones and the movies audio and iTunes sound was playing at the same time. but as soon as i unplugged the earphones iTunes was the only thing i heard .
weird isnt it.
i know its not a hardware issue cause i get sound without the earphones plugged in with any other movie playing in VLC, system sound, or itunes . i know its not the OS having issues cause it happens in both Tiger and Leopard. the only other thought is it can be VLC is somehow only sending sound for that movie in question to the earphones wile everything else plays fine using the internal speaker without the earphones plugged in. And just for kicks i tried MPlayer OS X and it did the same thing with this movie as it does in VLC.
OH BTW i am on a 533mhz G4 digital audio with 768mb ram.
the movie info is
Stream 0
video codec = mpgv
Stream 1
sound Codec = a52
its in a video TS folder setup.
and yes i tried deleting the pref files, and tried deleting the pref files again for this version of VLC and tried older versions of VLC and no change .
