Mac OS 10.3.9, and I'm getting the whole EXEC_BAD_ACCESS exception here as well. VLC displays no video, despite any preferences that I've set; it plays a few seconds of audio and then crashes.
Here's another odd wrinkle -- this started happening on a previous version of VLC, which prompted me to download 0.86h. I've tried playing files by dragging and dropping, loading from inside VLC, playing files on a Firewire drive, playing files on a drive connected to the system ATA bus, playing files connected to my ATA-100 card, and the same thing happens every time.
I've deleted VLC preferences via the Applescript included with the download. I've deleted the preferences manually. I've cleaned all the caches on the system. I've pre-bound what I could pre-bind. No joy. The problem remains.
It also happens on both the PPC and Universal binary versions (I'm on a G4).
I'm out of ideas here. Can anyone on 10.3.9 get VLC to work?
