Static video window size (and position)?

Postby Vic Loveland » 18 May 2008 00:05

Is there any way to stop VLC from resizing the video window when opening a new file from the playlist? I'd like to have the videos displayed in a manually sized window (placed next to my playlist), and fit the videos to this window, rather than having the window being resized to whatever size the videos are every time I open a new file. If I'm lucky, there's a way to have VLC remember these specific window sizes and positions too. Hope I'm making sense.. Fairly new to VLC, and haven't been able to locate any settings for this (perhaps because they don't exist in the first place).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

You *should* be able to do this specifying --width <integer> and --height <integer> on the command line, or by adjusting the corresponding values found in references > video (also tick off 'advanced'). However, this causes a bus error for me, and VLC will crash.

The value fields should appear if you (like I already mentioned) check (or 'tick off') the 'advanced' box in the preferences GUI. You can see it on your screenshot, where it is unchecked.

Ah, I thought you meant remove the tick, (off as in turn off). Sorry, language barriers can be challenging, but I guess I should've had the IQ to figure it out. I just don't :)

Tried filling in 800 and 400 in width and height respectively (assuming we're talking about pixels), but that didn't do the trick. The video window is still automatically resized when opening other videos. VLC doesn't crash for me though. I guess it would have been a lot easier if VLC would just remember the window size when resizing it manually, but I guess VLC just doesn't work that way. Anyhow, inputting the the aforementioned values does not keep the window at a static size. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

Not really, it doesn't work for me either. Not something I really need anyway, so I won't pursue the matter at this time.

Thanks anyway though, perhaps someone will pick up the thread.
