HI

control-click an AVI file
select: open with...
select: other
select: vlc from application folder (if stored there)
**under that selection window**
check the "always open with" box
select: OK

All AVI files should now open with VLC.

Method 2:

> ctrl click on the AVI file
> choose GET INFO
> On open with section choose VLC from the drop down menu
> Click on CHANGE ALL under "Use this application to open all documents like this."

I've also got a mac g4 and trying to play a DVD. The mac DVD program opens (I am trying to use a different region setting), and immediately warns me that I need to change region. When I select cancel, the DVD ejects. How on earth can I play it using vlc, or make vlc my default. I am not very tekkie....so excuse the elementary language! THanks
