no custom equalizer setting works

I just tried to use a custom setting by opening the settings -> "Audio" -> "Filters" -> "Equalizer" and pasting my preferred settings
(4.000000 2.000000 -2.000000 -4.00000 -1.500000 2.000000 5.000000 5.800000 6.000000 6.000000).
Always when I try to "activate" this it says this:
It would be great if someone could help me.
PS: A friend of mine uses the same setting with the windows version of vlc and it works.

I'm using OS X 10.4.11 and VLC v 0.8.6f (Intel).equalizer: No preset selected
main: cannot add user filter equalizer (skipped)
