.mp4 won't play

i've got a .mp4 that won't play in vlc. it plays but seems to be skipping frames in quicktime, and strangely enough plays beautifully in miro. any ideas as to why it won't play in vlc?

It's hard to say where the problem is, if you don't have any information about the problematic file. Maybe someone can help you if you upload upload your problematic file somewhere?

thanks for the suggestion but that'd actually be more trouble than it's worth since i really just wanted to watch the movie (which i've already done using miro) and was only mildly curious as to why it wasn't working in vlc
