Next update of ffmpeg for VLC?

From what I can tell VLC uses ffmpeg to do the video conversion. There are some files that I tried converting and the audio stream was not handled properly, yet the current release of ffmpeg will handle them. Are there any plans to bring the version of ffmpeg used by VLC up to date?

Errors that I got previously which the current ffmpeg release handles without issue:

FFmpeg is going to be updated to its current revisions by VLC's 0.9.0 release, which is scheduled for this spring. Maintenance releases for VLC 0.8.6x will stick to the current version for compatibility reasons.

If someone's interested..... I've been building on a "regular basis" the vlc 0.8.6.d with latest FFmpeg libraries for my project.
I've made them available at http://www.n-coder.com/vlcarchive
If you want to check the project, please give it a look at http://www.n-coder.com ... only in spanish at the moment... any comments
will be greatly appreciated.
I only needed the H264 updates to use along wiht the ActiveX control, but from what I can tell, VLC works fine... takes long time to startup though
OOPS -Just saw this was posted on MAC OSX forum - The files are for windows... sorry for the OFFTOPIC
