8.6d does not run on Mac OS10.3.9

I just downloaded the lastest version of VLC for my G3 Imac. I know in the prerelease stages you where talking about making sure it still worked with 10.3.
It might be smart to continue development for the older versions of OSX. I know I cannot upgrade my old mac to the newest version but still like to use my Imac to play DVD's and Movies at times.

Don't use 0.8.6d, use 0.8.6c and use the 0.8.6d FLAC plugin to fix the security issue.

Regrettably, we were unable to restore 10.3.9 compatibility again for various reasons, so we had to move on and drop its support one release earlier than actually planed. We know that there are still people out there using Mac OS X 10.3, but since this share is shrinking we decided to use feature introduced in later releases to provide an even better VLC experience. OS X 10.4 was released almost 2.5 years ago, so in my opinion, it's reasonable to focus on it, as we want to add 10.5 specific features and wouldn't be able to support 3 major releases of OS X at the same time.

Excuse me, but 8.6.d does run on Mac OS X 10.3.9. It plays behind an error message which says the version of the OS is not supported. Having just spent an hour and a half trying to find a reliable player which works and doesn't skip, I am beyond frustrated by this. Surely it's a setup file or prefs setting and can be changed so the player doesn't have to be quit and restarted between files!

This is an unsupported behaviour by VLC which actually shouldn't happen and will be fixed in the next release. Download VLC 0.8.6c for OS X 10.3.9, which is the latest supported release.
VLC 0.8.6d doesn't support 10.3.9, although you found a trick to get basic functionality. Believe me. Seriously!

You Must to download one of the previous version - for example the 0.8.1 like I did.
It works.
You can do it from the following italian link:

Take care.

0.8.1 misses a lot of features and is really outdated.

Just get 10.3.9 and QuickTime 7 as free, easy-to-install updates (OSX's Software Update!!) and download VLC 0.8.6c, which is the last release for the 10.3 series of Mac OS X. It got a great amount of new, nice features compared to 0.8.1. Especially, various new codecs and the fullscreen controller...

Can you describe more in detail what doesn't work?

If VLC fails to launch, delete both a folder called "VLC" and a file named "org.videolan.vlc.plist" in ~/Library/Preferences and try again.

@Roger: make sure that you downloaded 0.8.6c for PowerPC or a Universal Binary. Additionally, follow the steps I mentioned above. VLC will launch in any case, even if your OS wouldn't be supported (showing an error message then).
