VLC, Dreambox and VLCF

Postby Montero » 23 Nov 2007 21:10

Setting up your Mac to stream video to your Dreambox is a breeze.
Use Bluepanel to install VLCF (You'll find it under Addons - Download - Plugins).
Download the "vlcf_original.xml" from 'ftp://root@dreamboxIP/var/tuxbox/config/' to your Mac via FTP.
Edit it changing the lines:
<server name="set1" ip="192.168.178.32" webif-port="8080" stream-port="9090" user="admin" pass="admin" />

<config name="set1" startdir="d:" cddrive="g:" />

To:

<server name="set1" ip="YourMacLANIP" webif-port="8080" stream-port="9090" user="admin" pass="admin" init="8"/>

<config name="set1" startdir="/Volumes/YourDrive/Users/youraccount_shortname/Movies" cddrive="/Volumes/disk8(or whichever disk your Optical Drive happens to be)" />

You can find the diskID of your optical drive by opening Disk Utility, popping in a CD or DVD. In the Disk Utility your drive will pop up in the menu. CTRL-Click the Optical Drive and choose Information. Look at Disk Identifier.

Save the edited "vlcf_original.xml" as "vlcf.xml" and upload it to your Dreambox in 'ftp://root@dreamboxIP/var/tuxbox/config/'.

Start VLC on your Mac. In the Top Menu Choose 'VLC-Add Interface-Web Interface'.
Start VLCF on your Dreambox.

If all is well now and if you've gotten your IP's and all Correct the Directory defined in your 'vlcf.xml' will be listed on your TV and you can play files by choosing the movies on your Mac. An xtra bonus is that you can choose EyeTV files, and get to the mpg files inside them and watch those as well. I love VLCF and now EyeTV+my Mac is a very useful mediaserver... no more burning DVD's for me. :)

PS: Make SURE to CLEAN your VLC CACHE on your Mac. This is very important.
