VLC player continually crashing - help!

Hi all,
I have a problem with the VLC Player. I use it maily in conjunction with my Dreambox satellite receiver. The player enables me to watch the sat feed on my laptop through the dreambox "http" interface. It is a great tool. Unfortunately it continually crashes - sometimes 10 or 15 times in a row.
I have done little research to be honest. I found in the FAQ that some settings can be altered, but I can't seem to find the "verbosity" setting in the preferences. The FAQ says to try to increase the verbosity level - I can't find this in the preference...
Has anyone run across the same type of problem I am having? Does anyone else use VLC along with their Dreambox? Any additional help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Many thanks,
Cam Wilson
