VLC plugin vs. QT plugin types

Where can I find a list of all the file types the VLC plugin supports?
I'm trying to figure out which types I want to assign to QT plugin but unsure as I'm uncertain of the differences between the two.
(esp. when the QT site doesn't list .ogg as supported, but in my System Prefs>QT>MIME options ogg multimedia bitstream & ogg are options the QT plug in can handle)
I feel I've looked everywhere...
