I Think I did it right but it still didn't work!

Postby Steven79 » 08 Mar 2007 00:28

I deleted what I think was cache and preferences, but still no dice. How exactly do I fix the problem and in case I did it wrong where do go to delete preferences and cache?

Have the same problem. I upgraded quicktime lastnight and now VLC won't play video files, audio files aren't a problem.[/quote]

I downloaded vlc-0.8.6a.dmg last night.
It crashes when I try to run .ASF files.
I am running MAC OS X 10.4.8 on a Mini.
I also downloaded vlc-o.8.6a-powerpc.dmg to see if that works. It doesn't.

I tried to run it again after confirming that MACOS was selected as my interface under VLC Preferences.
It ran sound but no video then shut down with an error message stating that it had shut down unexpectedly.
I have an Intel processor, just in case you need to know.
My son has a G4 (lap top) and can run these files with no trouble.
We are comparing settings. It's a little time consuming since he is in S.A and I'm in the US.

If I had know that upgrading Quicktime would effect my beloved VLC, I never would have done it.

Tried to manually uninstall Quicktime but then finder wouldn't launch so I had to reinstall in.

Bugger!

Yes, running 10.3.9. VLC 0.8.6a closes immediately running avi files only after Quicktime update. Have erased prefs and cache more than once. Have deleted VLC and reinstalled three times to no effect. Will there be an update, or are we to abandon VLC in 10.3.9? (not my first choice: I love VLC)

And, if anyone figures out how to successfully undo the quicktime update please post!

I had moved the original quicktime to a folder within 'applications', so there was a sloppy update, and the old version was saved. I've tossed the new ap, all the cache material that I can find and all the stuff that looks like post-update... to no avail. I'm tempted to just throw all quicktime off of my computer to rescue VLC... the bundled quicktime is such a useless irritating lump of poo, and VLC is like my tv. set. SOS
cheers

All right, thank you, I followed your instructions and I indeed saw the old released of 8.0 VLC in 2004 but I unfortunately found no proper link to download this previous version.
But, I'm currently downloading it on eDonkey. There are few sources, but I have to make do with them.
And I apologize for any mistakes I made in this message since I'm not fluent in English.
