I have the same exact problem, and have for a while.
I tried OpenGL output along with many of the others and the video still has the same problem. Do you have any other suggestions? I'd love to get it to work.

The video is WMV2 and audio is WMA2.

I'm running...
VLC Version 0.8.6a
Mac OS X 10.4.6
Power Mac G4 867 MHz

thanks in advance for whatever help anyone can give me.

Your problem depends by the fact you tried to play a DRM wmv or at least I had the same problem (both on vlc for windows than for mac os x) when a tried to watch some wmv pr0n.
You can prove this drag&dropping the same wmv into Windows Media Player for Windows.. if it will require you a license or something like that, you have no chances to watch it (at least freely or without an*l-fuc*ing your privacy).

I hope i helped.

Dear VLC, Dear J-B,
I have this problem, too. My VLC is not refreshing well the all the frames of the WMV files.
I used the version 0.8.6c (on WinXP) on some different PCs.

When the VLC plays WMV files, it seems like this:
Plays the video but not refreshing all the changed pixels until there is a key-frame (a dramatically chanced picture - a snitt).
I thought so it is a processor malfunction, but not! The Windows Media Player plays these files well.

Help me please to solve this problem.

That's a problem with our decoder, as its implementation is not complete. Please stay tuned for future releases of VLC, which are going to include an updated version of the decoder.

I would like to bring back attention to poor WMV playback capability of VLC on MAC.
At present I've been using it on a PowerBook G4 1.33, On a PowerMac dual G5 2,0ghz, and on a MacBookPro with the latest version 0.8.6h.
It always seems to be affected to delay in redrawing the player screen whenever I jump forward or backward. Resulting in a large squared ppicture as showed in the first post, for few seconds till the catch for the Keyframe is completed.
Till now I've not noticed any improvement in the various development steps.
I do belive it's not a CPU power related issue.
I may suggest to check out how well performs MOVIST 0.51.
It rocks for wmv playback.
