Floating controls when VLC not active

Postby corto_maltese » 19 Dec 2006 11:45

I have a slight problem with 0.8.6

When playing in fullscreen, and leaving VLC in the background, the floating controller pops up over any other active program. I often play parts of a movie, leave VLC on pause in the background, and working on other programs in between.

Running::

version 10.4.8
build 8L127
Powerbook G4 12" 1 GHz 1024 MB

Have searched the forum for other posts on the subject, but with no luck...

Have tried to reset preferences, but it makes no difference.

The bug is in the buglist for the next version already

In fact, it's already fixed now :)

Builds

Is there any way to get hold of SVN builds with this improvement? Have seen people running beta and alphas on the forum...

you could download a nightly build, but I don't recommend that since various other features are broken or unstable in these pre-alpha builds (most importantly: playlist and preferences). I expect that it will take at least one month until the current development source becomes useable (as in early public beta).

Additionally, I introduced another little bug with my fix, which in turn needs to be fixed again *cough, cough*

i've been experiencing the same problem as well and it's a little irritating. i tried to switch to the playlist window before switching to other apps, which works temporarily, but that floater won't quit. it'll be back after like 10 seconds. i also tried watching vlc not in fullscreen mode but there's no video output for me in anything but fullscreen mode.

guess i'm boned til 0.8.7 shows up.

Speaking of problems with the fullscreen controller (which is nice, I have to declare!), is there a simple way to make it disappear while viewing a program? It interferes with the subtitles, and moving it above is not a nice solution...
Thanks in advance, and... gambatte ne!

Please download the Security Update 0.8.6a, which was published today. It contains the Fullscreen Controller fixes you're asking for and also includes an option to disable them completely.

BTW. There won't be a VLC 0.8.7. This next non-security-update is going to be VLC 0.9.0 with major improvements.
