goom window always shows and cannot be disabled

Using VLC on OSX. I did something (I assume...) to make the goom window show whenever i play a music file. this was cool. then i came across a video that wouldn't play in quicktime. i tried vlc and was very happy to see the video, but the goom window also came up and my poor mac mini struggles to handle the heavy goom window and the video, even if i minimize the goom window. now i cannot for the life of me get the goom window disabled. how do i do this ? and please don;t tell me to go and recompile code :)

I did use 0.8.2, and found that 0.8.5 was out, so I downloaded it and saw a file in the dmg to delete preferences. This helped and the goom window is gone, but i liked it. Yet I am scared to ever open the damn thing again fearing that it'll take over again.

Can anyone help ? How do I disable the goom window once it plays ? Closing it also closes the playing media file (stupid design choice if you ask me). Even though my probem is now fixed, I'm sure it will help others (and me in future if it happens again) if someone can point me to the setting that says "don't open the goom window when playing a media file".

thanks in advance

You can't say VLC to open the goom window only if it plays files which got no video (which would be a nice option though; I agree). You can en-/disable the goom window temporarily through the main menu though: Audio -> Visualizations -> Goom.
