VLC OS X network streaming slower than VLC windows.

I have a sony vaio and a mac laptop, on the sony I go into my network places and click on a video, it opens in VLC and plays perfectly (this is on a 11mbps wireless network).

On the mac I do the exact same thing, ctrl k and connect, double click on a video, it opens in vlc, the problem is it doesn't play well. It freezes every few seconds, I only seem to get good results when I plug in the network cable.

I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest anything I can do to speed the mac up?

I adjust the Preference : File cache to 3000ms

Takes a bit longer to pause/start but works fluidly.
