Unwanted mixed language menus

I have a recurring problem with VLC. This Mac mini is set up for English and Russian, and runs OS X 10.4.5. We also have a G5 iMac with the same problem. VLC 0.8.5 test1 displays its menus in a mixture of both languages, e.g.: 'VLC File Edit Playback ???? ????? Window Help' And under '????' I get 'Volume up Volume down ????????? ????', etc.

Pop-up help messages are in Russian; so not a lot of help.

This happened also with 0.8.3, but I somehow stopped it from happening with 0.8.4 on this box. I am only learning Russian, and am having difficulty figuring out which setting[s] to change under 'Preferences', since a number of the menu choices are in Russian.

Can someone please remind me what to do to stop this annoying situation? [Is it a bug?]

Thanks.

P.S. On previewing this, I notice that all of the Cyrillic which I painstakingly typed has turned into question marks. Sorry about that.

Sorted

Please check your Internationalisation-settings in the global OSX preferences and make sure that International English is the first language of your choice. Additionally, remove also the folder called "VLC" in your preferences-folder since the language selection setting is stored there.
Thanks, Felix, for the help.
