VLC 3.0.20 REPLACES OLDER QT FILES BUT DISTORTS

Postby Distortquest » 20 Jun 2024 14:47

Hi I have already had 2 lengthy phone calls on this topic with Apple Support. In 30 years of using Apple the worst shock I had was finding Apple junked Quicktime (10.5 (build 1015.2) leaving me with hundreds of QT videos that no longer worked. No warning at the upgrade AND no advice. Googling alternatives took me to Elmedia, a very non responsive Company. Elmedia converts mpeg 4 OK but not older QT videos. I have found VLC will produce a distorted version of older QTs but need you to recommend a Convertor I cannot see where to add a screenshot but VLC > WINDOWS > MUSSAGES gave me these error messages several times:
- debug: picture might be displayed late
- Warning mp4 payload err 2/3 and 3/3

I should be most grateful if someone could give me some advice how to convert the videos so the distortion is minimal - presumably by a convertor.

The level of distorion and pixellation isn the colour videos is high

I am in my 70s and have never used a Forum before.

many thanks
Anton

PS I registered and logged in but could not find where to post - I sent private messages to Admin but had to get Apple to work out I must start with JUMP TO > CHOOSE A TOPIC to find NEW TOPIC

Hello Anton,

would it be possible to share one of those files with us so we can debug what's wrong? We'd be very interested in supporting this old format correctly.

Best regards
