converting mov to m4v has no video

I have a short video in MOV format that I wanted to convert to m4v. I've done this before with VLC. I'm running version 3.0.20 on both my Intel Mac and ARM M2 Mac both running Sonoma 14.4.1. To do this, I go to File->Convert/Stream, click on Open media and select the file, I've chosen the profile Video - H.264 + MP3 (MP4) without any customization. I then click on Save as File. When it's finished, I try to play it on VLC, but only audio plays! The same thing happens when I try to do it on either mac. Does anyone have any suggestions as to fix this?
