low speed playback with short jump stops playback

I experimented with playing an m4a file at various slow speeds (0.5, 0.75, 0.8, etc.) and occasionally used the keyboard shortcuts [left and right arrow keys] to navigate. However, I noticed that VLC took quite a while, perhaps more than 10 seconds, to resume playback. On some occasions, it didn't resume playback at all. Could you please suggest any solutions to this issue?

Can you give us a log? Open "Messages" from the "Window" menu and keep that window open before you start your playback. Then, send us the content of that window when you are done. Thanks!
