Infinite loop when opening a file and "loop one" selected

Hello guys. I am on MacOS 12.6.8 and VLC 3.0.18, but the exactly same problem still persists here, 4 years after the original poster described it:

I didn't want to pester you with an extra thread, just inform you, in case the devs aren't aware. There is no error dialogue, but the GUI is clearly in a loop error. This is quite baffling behavior for such an otherwise professional application.

A simple runtime routine check (aka abort playback of bugged loop after x attempts in y time) would solve this issue instantly, without users having to manually close the app or select another track. So please patch this, I would appreciate it. Thank you!
