Please take a look at this link. This should get you started in the right direction.
There's nothing wrong with your Mac, your drive or VLC. VLC can't play commercial Blu Ray discs without a little help. If you are still confused, reply.

I understand that you're not trying to convert them However, while VLC contains its own decryption software for playing commercial DVDs, it doesn't contain anything similar for Blu Ray. That's where the other software becomes necessary. I'm currently playing Blu Ray discs in macOS Ventura 13.2.1 using my external Pioneer drive. It took a little more effort than in the past, but it's fine now.
If it's something you are interested in pursuing, I'd be willing to assist. If you don't want to spend time on it, that's OK too

So you're saying you are using some software to play Blu Ray discs, yes? So what software are you using?

I am playing all my Blu Ray discs using VLC, and I've been doing so since about 2015. VLC is free, so that's why I use it. But it needs a a bit of "help". I suggest that you register at a different website's forum keeping your username, do some reading, and repost your question. I'll look for it. Discussing this on VLC's forum could get both you and I permanently banned from posting because of forum rules.

Post in the OS-Specific forums. Obviously, the MacOS one.
Playing a Blu Ray disc using VLC in MacOS Ventura is more difficult than it ever was before. But I have a fully working setup now.
