VLC keeps crashing on my MacPro5,1 running macOS 12.6.3

I have an upgraded video card (AMD Radeon RX580) and I use OpenCore Legacy Patcher on my old MacPro5,1 to be able to boot "Monterey" aka 12.6.3.

VLC keeps crashing numerous times while playing videos. The crashes do not happen at the exact same times when playing the exact same set of videos.

mpv does not crash while playing the exact same videos.

The VLC version is 3.0.18.

The Mac Pro has been upgraded to a "Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU W3690 @ 3.47GHz"

My current theory is that VLC is incorrectly calling a CPU feature that is not on that CPU. (For example, AVX, etc.)

The next time it crashes I will post the full crash report, so please don't close the thread yet.
