VLSub not working in Ventura?

Postby winglet69 » 21 Jan 2023 23:35

Hi All,

Just updated my aging MB Pro from Big Sur to Ventura and noticed that when I try to search for subtitles using VLSub 0.11.1 it freezes VLC completely. Spinning beach ball, have to force quit. Player works fine, just the extension not working.

I'm not 100% certain if this is even related to the OS update or not, just has been the most significant software change recently so I mention it as a possible cause.

I did hunt around and found references in the Windows camp to the fact that their version throws an error because opensubtitles.org recently now requires the creation of an account and login credentials to use, and in the Windows version of VLC there is apparently a place to enter those which it's said restores this functionality. I actually made an account with opensubtitles but don't see anywhere similar in the Mac version of VLC where one could enter these details.

I did remove my VLC install completely with Appcleaner and reinstalled it clean from the latest download 3.0.18 (MacOS 13.1) but no change in behaviour.

So just throwing this out there to see if anyone has a similar issue or I've just stumbled onto something unique to my setup.
