convert from .mov to .avi

Postby skysong263 » 21 Nov 2022 01:11

I am trying to convert a .mov file to an .avi file on mac. OS 13.0.1
I have VLC 3.0.17.3
The original file is 1.47 GB

I chose file/convert/stream. The online help videos say I should be able to choose convert/save, but this option does not appear.

I specified my input file.

Then I specified a custom profile and chose .avi under custom. That seemed to be the only way to get .avi. This seems to be totally different from the videos, but it was the only option I could see.

Then I clicked save.

Then the thing seemed to do something, going through the video and saved a .avi file, which is only 11.3M -- which seems like a huge compression, tho it does play and seems to have all the original frames -- but VlC doesn't stop. It starts over and tries to convert the file again Then it says the file already exists. There doesn't seem to be a way to stop it. It seems to be in some kind of infinite loop. It will let me overwrite the file but then it starts over again. There is an option to keep the existing file, but that just seems to provoke the same window coming up again, saying that the file already exists.
