Compatibility issue VLC media player <-> mp4 <-> Bluetooth device

Hey all,
my VLC started to behave really weird all of the sudden.
The issue:
When playing *.mp4 media data on VLC via my bluetooth speaker JBL Charge 4, I'm getting a horrible rattling and crackling sound.
Sometimes it's mild, sometimes I can barely understand anything.
I'm using a Macbook Air M1.
Note:
Youtube videos and *.VOB files sound perfect.
Also, the *.mp4 files sound perfect when playing them on my macbook using my native speakers other my bluetooth earplugs.
What I tried (unsuccessfully):
Any thoughts on what I need to do?

- downloading the latest udpate of VLC
deleting and re-installing VLC media player
removing the bluetooth speakers and reconnecting them
Any thoughts on what I need to do?
