VLC mac not recognizing caption data tracks

Howdy-
We have captioned mp4/h264 files (not sidecar caption files - caption data tracks muxed into mp4) that VLC on windows will recognize and display the caption data, but VLC on mac does not even see the caption data tracks.
Here's a screenshot from mac vlc (no caption data tracks recognized by vlc)

which does not show caption tracks - no Stream 2 .

any ideas or settings i should check?

huh, this is unexpected. Please upload a sample file here http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ and let me know the file name once done.
