Thumbnails and Menu Options MacBook?

I am using another app to record video from my gaming console and they had me download VLC to watch the content.

Is there a way to change the thumbnail to be a preview of the video, rather than them all being the same thumbnail of the VLC icon?

It's not a huge deal but I also can only get content from certain areas of my laptop to automatically show up in VLC such as "videos" and "photos" and "playlist." I would like to make the file location an option but I'm not sure how.

For reference, I am on a new MacBook Air and save the videos to Downloads and then a folder named Games. It's just the easiest way for me to access them.

So overall, can I make it so 1) the thumbnails in my folder are a still of that video rather than the VLC icon and 2) have my Games folder as an option on the left side menu when I open VLC?

Hello,

We don't have influence on the thumnailing mechanism used by Finder to show your media. We might do a plugin for this in the long-distance future, but so far it is not supported and Finder will show thumbnails for media only that it natively understands.

For the Games folder as a shortcut, this will be possible in VLC version 4, but not in version 3.

Cheers.
